Capacity Building

We are excited to explore innovative ways of supporting nonprofit organizations and community groups beyond grantmaking, to drive the impact that we want to see in our region.

Three Years of Impact

In 2020, the Community Foundation partnered with Catchafire to bring nonprofit organizations in the region free, “on-demand” access to a network of 85,000+ volunteer consultants from around the world. In the first three years, organizations who participated in Catchafire matched 1,300 projects with expert volunteers, saving over $4 million in organizational costs. We are excited to continue our partnership with Catchafire to support even more community partners in 2024.

About the Volunteers

Catchafire’s virtual network connects organizations with passionate professionals across a diverse range of fields, from Fortune 500s to 1-person startups. These highly-skilled volunteers provide expert support in key areas like marketing, design, strategic planning, IT, finance, and more. Each of the 150+ project and call templates contains prerequisite skills and experience, core deliverables, and time estimates, so volunteers know exactly what is required when they apply to work with an organization.

How to Apply for Catchafire

The Community Foundation recognizes that many highly effective nonprofit organizations, often led by people of color, experience inequitable access to resources to do their important work. We have prioritized these, along with rural and small organizations, for Catchafire eligibility. If you are not a current Catchafire recipient and would like to participate in the program, please contact Megan Donovan for more information at
